Nicollet Avenue Bridge rehabilitation project begins Aug. 2

Bridge spanning I-494 will close Aug. 1

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Nicollet Avenue motorists in Bloomington and Richfield may experience delays and a detour as a project to rehabilitate this bridge spanning I-494 begins Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The bridge and ramps to and from I-494 at Nicollet Avenue will close at 12 a.m. Aug. 1 as crews prepare for the work. It will remain closed throughout the entire project. Detours will direct motorists to use Lyndale Avenue, W. 77th Street, Portland Avenue and American Boulevard to bypass the closure.

Additional closures throughout the project will include a closure of the 2nd Avenue pedestrian bridge spanning I-494 for rehabilitation work, as well as a weekend closure of I-494 for bridge painting. Further updates will be made as these closures approach.

Work on the Nicollet Avenue Bridge will include resurfacing and curb, gutter and sidewalk replacement. Work on the 2nd Avenue pedestrian bridge will include replacement of the stairs and chain link fence and painting. The project will extend the lifespan of the bridges and improve safety and usability for motorist and pedestrians.

The entire project is expected to be completed by late September 2011.
