I-35E single lane traffic lifted this afternoon

Installation of temporary culvert is complete

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will find two lanes of traffic in each direction in time for tomorrow’s morning rush hour on Interstate 35E between White Bear Lake and Forest Lake.

Construction crews completed installation of a temporary culvert beneath the northbound lanes of Interstate 35E at Anoka County Road 14 in Lino Lakes.  Traffic has been restricted to a single lane in each direction for approximately one-quarter mile since last Sunday evening for installation of a temporary culvert to carry Clearwater Creek beneath the northbound interstate. The temporary culvert will carry the water during replacement of the existing culvert.

Inclement weather delayed the planned reopening until today.

Due to the uncertainty of the state budget situation and a potential government shutdown, the interstate now will remain two lanes in each direction until further notice to lessen the effect of single lane traffic between Ramsey County Road 96 and the I-35E/I-35W split in Columbus, just south of Forest Lake. The original construction schedule had called for single lane traffic beginning June 16.

This project aims to provide a long-term solution to the existing roadway. The existing pavement will be removed from the concrete below and replaced with a concrete overlay, which will provide durability and a smoother ride.
