I-35E single lane traffic begins June 19

Crews need to install temporary culvert

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists may experience delays and increased congestion on I-35E between White Bear Lake and Forest Lake beginning Sunday, June 19.

At 5 p.m. northbound I-35E will be shifted to the southbound lanes of the interstate between Ramsey County Road J and the I-35E/35W/35 split. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction as crews install a temporary culvert to carry Clearwater Creek beneath the interstate, just south of Anoka County Road 14. The temporary culvert is needed to carry the water during replacement of the existing culvert.

Weather permitting, the interstate will be reopened to two lanes in each direction by Friday evening, June 24.

The interstate will remain two lanes in each direction until further notice to lessen the effect of single lane traffic between Ramsey County Road 96 and the I-35E/I-35W split in Columbus, just south of Forest Lake. The original construction schedule had called for single lane traffic beginning June 16.

This project aims to provide a long-term solution to the existing roadway. The existing pavement will be removed from the concrete below and replaced with a concrete overlay, which will provide durability and a smoother ride.
