Mn/DOT Metro District Outlines Groundwater Pollution Prevention Plan at Public Open House

(Roseville, Minn.) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation Metro District will outline efforts to reduce surface and groundwater at the Ramsey-Washington County Water Fest at Lake Phalen in St. Paul. The annual event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Lake Phalen Lake Center/Pavilion.

Federal and state laws require Mn/DOT to reduce the amount of surface and groundwater pollution through a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program.  The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued Mn/DOT Metro District an MS4 NPDES program permit currently in effect until May 31, 2011.

As part of the current MS4 program and permit, Mn/DOT is seeking public comments about its Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).  This plan includes best management practices for construction projects along with maintenance and operations activities.

For more information about Mn/DOT Metro’s MS4 program and to view a copy of the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) please go to the Mn/DOT Metro MS4 webpage located at: www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/waterresources.
