Traffic switch, closures delayed on Hwy 52 south of the Lafayette bridge
Weather causes second delay of bridge work south of Lafayette bridge
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Rain, thunderstorms and tornados in the Twin Cities Metro today have again delayed the start of work on three bridges south of the Hwy 52 Lafayette bridge in St. Paul. Weather permitting, northbound Hwy 52 traffic will be switched to the southbound side of the roadway between Concord Street and the south end of the Lafayette bridge beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 23. Once the switch is complete, traffic will be one lane in the northbound direction and two lanes traveling southbound.
At the same time on Monday night, the ramps from Concord Street, Plato Boulevard and Eaton Street/East Lafayette Road to northbound Hwy 52 will close.
The closures are needed so crews can begin redecking the northbound Plato Boulevard and Eaton Street bridges. The northbound Concord Street bridge will be repaired and resurfaced.
Demolition of the deck of the existing northbound Plato Boulevard bridge was also delayed and has been rescheduled for Tuesday night, May 24th. Plato Boulevard beneath the bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 25. If needed, Plato Boulevard will be closed overnight Wednesday during the same time frame.
All work is weather permitting.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid congestion and possible delays.
