Traffic switch, closures scheduled for Hwy 52 south of Lafayette Bridge
Redecking to begin on Plato Boulevard, Eaton Street, Concord Bridges

 

ROSEVILLE, Minn. –Repairs and redecking of three bridges south of the Hwy 52 Lafayette Bridge in St. Paul is scheduled to begin Friday, May 20.


Following evening rush hour, northbound Hwy 52 will be switched to the southbound lanes of the roadway between Concord Street and the south end of the Lafayette Bridge. Once the switch is complete, traffic will be one lane in the northbound direction and two lanes in the southbound direction.


At the same time, the ramps from Concord Street, Plato Boulevard and Eaton Street/East Lafayette Road to northbound Hwy 52 will close.


The closures are needed as crews begin redecking the Plato Boulevard and Eaton Street bridges. The Concord Street Bridge also will be repaired and resurfaced.


Demolition of the deck of the existing northbound Plato Boulevard Bridge will require Plato Boulevard beneath the bridge to be closed from 7 p.m. Friday, May 20 until 5 a.m. Monday, May 23. Eaton Street will be closed during the same hours the following weekend, weather permitting.


Work on the northbound bridges will be completed in mid-July, and the structures will reopen. Work will shift to the southbound bridges until late September.


The ramp from Plato Boulevard to northbound Hwy 52 on the south bank of the Mississippi River has been closed since Thursday, April 21 and will remain closed until the end of September as crews build retaining walls on the south end of the new northbound bridge. East Lafayette Road on the east side of Hwy 52 south of the river is also will remain closed until the end of September.
