Overnight closures planned later this week at Hwy 36, Rice Street

Crews to place bridge beams for new Rice Street bridge, ramp bridges

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will encounter overnight closures on eastbound Hwy 36 and both directions of Rice Street this Wednesday night through Saturday morning, Feb. 23-26. The closures are needed as crews deliver and set beams for the new southbound Rice Street bridge and the ramp bridges over Hwy 36 just east and west of Rice Street in Roseville and Little Canada. The closures will happen on the following schedule:

Wednesday, February 23

During these closures, traffic traveling from Rice Street to eastbound Hwy 36 should follow the posted detours.  Traffic traveling eastbound Hwy 36 will be stopped intermittently at Rice Street while beams are erected over the highway.

Thursday, February 24

During these closures, eastbound traffic will be directed up and down the ramps at Rice Street to bypass the closure. Traffic traveling from eastbound Hwy 36 to southbound or northbound Rice Street or from northbound Rice Street to Hwy 36 or southbound Rice Street to eastbound Hwy 36 should follow the posted detours.

The ramp from westbound Hwy 36 to northbound Rice Street will remain open, however traffic will not be able to travel south on Rice Street.  The ramp from southbound Rice Street to westbound Hwy 36 also will remain open.

Friday, February 25

During these closures, traffic traveling from eastbound Hwy 36 to northbound or southbound Rice Street should follow the posted detours.  Traffic traveling eastbound Hwy 36 will be stopped intermittently at Rice Street while beams are erected over the highway.

Hwy 36 and Rice Street will reopen to traffic at 5 a.m. Thursday and Friday and at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Motorists may encounter congestion and delays during the overnight work and are advised to use alternate routes if possible to avoid delays.  This work is subject to cancellation in the event of poor weather conditions.

Replacement of the aging Rice Street bridge and construction of a new interchange will increase safety and lessen congestion.  The project is expected to be complete in November 2011.
