Lafayette Bridge construction bids opened this morning

Hwy 52 bridge project will rebuild aging bridge in St. Paul

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Lunda Construction Company of Black River Falls, Wisconsin was the apparent low bidder this morning for construction of the new Highway 52 Lafayette bridge crossing the Mississippi River east of downtown St. Paul. The proposal of $130.4 million was the lowest of six bids received for the new bridge and surrounding roadways.

Construction will begin early next year once the bid is certified and an award is made. The project will build a new river bridge to replace the existing Lafayette Bridge that opened to traffic in 1968. The new structure will feature two through lanes and an auxiliary lane in each direction for entering and exiting traffic.

Additional work includes replacing the Highway 52 bridge over Interstate 94, reconstruction of the interchange north of the bridge, realignment of adjoining roadways and the redecking of the Highway 52 bridge spanning Plato Avenue.  Completion is slated for fall 2014.
