Both directions of Interstate 35W close this weekend at I-694
Crews will paint eastbound I-694 bridge crossing I-35W in Arden Hills, New Brighton
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Southbound Interstate 35W will close at 8 p.m. and northbound I-35W will close at 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, as crews paint the newly widened eastbound I-694 bridge crossing I-35W on the border of Arden Hills and New Brighton.
I-35W will remain closed at I-694 until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at which time I-35W and all ramps and loops will reopen.
The southbound interstate will be closed at I-694 while the northbound interstate will close at Highway 36 with no access north between the interstate and other roads between Highway 36 and I-694. There will be access to the southbound interstate in this area.
During the weekend closure, the loop from northbound I-35W to westbound I-694 will close along with the ramp from northbound I-35W to eastbound I-694. The loop from southbound I-35W to eastbound I-694 has been closed since the project began in early July. The ramp from southbound I-35W to westbound I-694 will remain open.
While I-35W is closed, traffic will follow a signed detour:
- Northbound I-35W and access to eastbound and westbound I-694: Detour east on Highway 36, north on I-35E and back west on I-694
- Southbound I-35W and access to eastbound I-694: Detour west on I-694 and east to I-35W
Work to widen the eastbound I-694 bridge began in early July. When completed next week, the project will improve traffic flow by extending the merge area on the eastbound roadway to increase safety and lessen congestion.
NOTE: Motorists will also encounter delays this weekend at the I-35W Mississippi River in Minneapolis. More information will be available on Wednesday.
