Closures ahead for installation of new Gateway Trail bridge on the border of North St. Paul, Oakdale

Crews will place bridge beams across Century Avenue south of Highway 36

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists will encounter lane closures, and then full road closures, beginning Thursday night, Oct. 28 as work continues on the new Gateway Trail bridge over Century Avenue on the border of North St. Paul and Oakdale.  Following the bridge’s arrival on site Thursday night, Georgia Avenue will be closed west of Century Avenue until late Saturday night, Oct. 30 to provide space for crews to assemble the bridge trusses.

Between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, there will be a lane closure and a shortened right turn lane on Century Avenue to move the cranes into place for the truss erection.  Century Avenue will then close at 10 p.m. as crews erect the structure.  The roadway will reopen by 5 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30.

The intersection of Highway 36 and Century Avenue (Highway 120) will remain open, although traffic will not be able to travel southbound on Century Avenue.

The new structure is expected to open to the public by late November. The new bridge will provide a safer crossing for pedestrians and bicyclists using the Department of Natural Resources Gateway Trail. The state trail is an 18-mile, converted rail-trail for non-motorized trail use. It begins in the city of St. Paul at Cayuga/L’Orient Streets and travels northeast through the cities of Maplewood, North St. Paul and Oakdale, through Washington County and ends at Pine Point Regional Park, just four miles northwest of the city of Stillwater.
