Pile driving work for new Hastings Bridge begins Monday, Oct. 25
Motorists, area residents and businesses near the Highway 61 Hastings Bridge may hear the sound of hammering steel beginning Monday, Oct. 25 as pile driving begins for the new Highway 61 Hastings Bridge.
The initial work will take place just northwest of the existing bridge, near the project’s north side staging area by Hub’s Marina, between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.. Some Saturday work is possible.
The work is scheduled to be completed by March 2011.
Modern highway bridge piling is constructed from metal or concrete beams, or “pile,” driven into the earth to help support a bridge’s foundation.
As is expected for the entire project, two-way traffic will remain open on the bridge and access to local businesses and residences should not be affected.
Motorists and community members who have questions or concerns are encouraged to call the Hastings Bridge Project Hotline at 651-775-5244 or visit the project’s web site at www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hastingsbridge.
