Testing scheduled for new I-35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge

“Health” assessment undertaken with University of Minnesota

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The I-35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge spanning the Mississippi River in Minneapolis will undergo routine testing overnight on Oct. 27 and Oct. 28 as part of the Bridge Health Monitoring System.

Bridge testing will require full closures of I-35W between I-94 and Highway 280 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Northbound I-35W will be closed overnight on Oct. 27, and southbound I-35W will be closed overnight on Oct. 28. Posted detours will direct motorists to use I-94 and Highway 280.

Mn/DOT in conjunction with the University of Minnesota will perform a series of tests and assess the overall fitness of the bridge. The system on the bridge itself continually collects data regarding its structural response. Occasional full-closure tests such as these are used to develop and verify baseline information to analyze the bridge’s performance.

The testing is weather-permitting and will be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.
