Hwy 12 in Maple Plain to reopen Oct. 20
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will no longer encounter a detour in Maple Plain as the Hwy 12 Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Bridge reconstruction project is completed on Wednesday, Oct. 20.
Hwy 12 between County Road 90 and County Road 83 will reopen during the morning on Wednesday. Crews will be installing guardrail, striping the roadway, and installing signage during the next few days before the roadway reopens.
The roadway has been closed since April 12, 2010 for completion of the project, which began September 9, 2009. The purpose of the project was to replace the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad bridge spanning Hwy 12 and reconstruct a one-mile portion of Hwy 12 in Maple Plain and Independence. The new bridge will provide the necessary vertical clearance and improve the sight distance through the bridge, improving safety for motorists.
