Highway 52 Lafayette Bridge monthly open house set Sept. 16 at Wellstone Center in St. Paul

Meetings provide information on upcoming bridge replacement

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to learn about replacement plans for the Highway 52 Lafayette bridge during an open house meeting in September.

Drop-in office hours are scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Center for Community Building, 179 Robie Street East in St. Paul. Open house meetings are set for the third Thursday of each month.

The Lafayette Bridge, which spans the Mississippi River east of downtown St. Paul, is a steel plate girder structure that opened to traffic in 1968. Its replacement is currently scheduled to begin in late 2010, with completion scheduled in 2014.

Individuals with a disability who need reasonable accommodations to participate should contact Kent Barnard at 651-234-7504. Hearing- or speech-impaired persons should contact the Minnesota Relay Service at 1-800-627-3529.
