Short-term closures scheduled for Stillwater Lift Bridge
ROSEVILLE, Minn. —The Stillwater Lift Bridge will be temporarily closed overnight between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, and Wednesday, Sept. 8 to replace malfunctioning electrical cables that power the gate arm system controlling traffic across the two-lane bridge. Work completed, no closure on Sept. 9.
One of the gate arms that stops traffic when the lift section of the bridge is raised became stuck in the down position on Saturday, Aug. 21. The bridge has been operated in the manual mode since the problem began. Inspection of the bridge determined that several electrical cables were faulty.
The bridge is safe for vehicles and pedestrians; however the repairs will require closing the bridge to motorized traffic and halting lifts for marine traffic. Motorists are encouraged use Highway 243 at Osceola, Wis. or the Interstate 94 bridge at Hudson, Wis. to avoid delays
The closures are weather dependent and will be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
