Interstate 35W and westbound Highway 62 to close Oct. 16-19
Traffic switch scheduled for Oct. 19
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists will encounter detours and increased congestion on metro area roadways starting at 10 p.m. Oct. 16 when all lanes of southbound Interstate 35W, between Interstate 94 and Highway 62, and all northbound lanes of I-35W close at the eastern junction of Highway 62.
In addition, all lanes of westbound Highway 62, between the eastern junction of I-35W and Highway 121 close during the same time period.
Eastbound Highway 62 will remain open during the closures and motorists will be able to access northbound I-35W from westbound Highway 62.
Weather permitting all lanes will open by 5 a.m. Oct. 19.
Part of the I-35W/Highway 62 Crosstown reconstruction project, the closure is needed for bridge demolition and bypass construction.
Motorists should follow the posted detour routes:
• Southbound I-35W: I-394 West to Highway 100 South to Highway 62 East to I-35W South
• Northbound I-35W: Highway 62 West to Highway 100 North to I-394/I-94 East
• Westbound Highway 62: Highway 62 West to Cedar Ave South to I-494 West to
I-35W North to Highway 62 West
After the Oct. 16-19 weekend closure, the following traffic changes will be in affect:
• Southbound I-35W motorists will access eastbound Highway 62 from the left lane
• Southbound I-35W motorists will access westbound Highway 62/southbound I-35W from the two right traffic lanes.
Beginning on Monday, Oct. 19, the southbound Highway 121/Lyndale Avenue entrance ramp to southbound I-35W will close through Summer 2010, and the ramp to Lyndale Avenue from southbound I-35W will open. The ramp will only be accessible to motorists traveling southbound I-35W. Motorists traveling westbound Highway 62 will not be able to exit at Lyndale Avenue at this time. The ramp will be accessible from both southbound
I-35W and westbound Highway 62 in 2010.
The 60th Street ramp to northbound I-35W is scheduled to close at 10 p.m. on Thursday, October 22. This ramp will remain closed until the summer of 2010.
