Landscaping project alongside I-494 begins Sept. 30
Motorists will encounter work crews and occasional shoulder closures along Interstate 494 between Interstate 394 and Highway 5 beginning Sept. 30 when crews begin placing stakes to mark a landscaping project.
Most of the work will take place in the right of way and is not expected to affect traffic.
Plant bed and other preparatory work will begin this fall, with most of the plant installations beginning next Spring and being completed by June of 2010. Contractor responsibility for plant establishment and plant bed maintenance ends in June of 2012.
The project is meant to provide visual screening along the freeway in areas without noise walls and restore portions of the landscape to represent its appearance before I-494 was reconstructed.
The project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
