I-35W closures scheduled, beginning June 12

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists will encounter detours and increased congestion on metro area roadways starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, June 12 when all lanes of northbound Interstate-35W, from Hwy 62 to I-94, and all lanes of southbound I-35W from 60th Street to Hwy 62, temporarily close over the weekend.   All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 15.  Hwy 62 will remain open during the closures, but motorists traveling along southbound I-35W from downtown will not be able to access westbound Hwy 62.

The closure is needed for bridge repair and pavement work along I-35W, and for placement of bridge segments at the eastern junction of I-35W and Hwy 62.

Motorists should follow the posted detours during the closure:

In addition to the weekend closures, the Lake Street Metro Transit bus stop will close June 12 at 10:00 p.m. and will remain closed for approximately two and a half months.  Also, all northbound and southbound lanes of I-35W, from Hwy 62 to 60th Street, will close nightly Sunday through Thursday evenings from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Sunday, June 14, with intermittent evening closures continuing through June 19.

Motorists will be able to access northbound I-35W from 60th Street during these weeknight closures.

The work is part of the I-35W/Hwy 62 Crosstown Reconstruction project and the ongoing reconstruction of I-35W from Burnsville to downtown Minneapolis, which is funded by the Urban Partnership Agreement (UPA). The UPA projects will improve traffic flow by reducing congestion on I-35W, Hwy 77/Cedar Avenue and in downtown Minneapolis using transit, road pricing, technology and telecommuting.  The UPA is funded by $133.3 million in federal funds and $50.2 million in matching state funds.
