ST. PAUL, Minn. – Motorists will experience ramp closures on the exit and entrance ramps at Black Dog Road on southbound Interstate 35W in Bloomington starting Tuesday, May 26. The ramps will be closed through mid June to complete work needed for the construction of an additional southbound lane on I-35W.
Detour routes are as follows:
• Southbound I-35W exit to Black Dog Road
Detour: South on I-35W to Cliff Road, Cliff Road to I-35W northbound, I-35W to Black Dog Road
• Black Dog Road entrance to southbound I-35W
Detour: North on I-35W to 106th Street, 106th to I-35W south
The work is part of the ongoing reconstruction of I-35W from Burnsville to downtown Minneapolis that is funded by the Urban Partnership Agreement.
The UPA projects will improve traffic flow by reducing congestion on I-35W, Highway 77/Cedar Avenue and in downtown Minneapolis using transit, road pricing, technology and telecommuting. With the completion of UPA projects, commuters will experience more transportation choices, less traffic congestion and reduced commute times on one of the busiest roadways in Minnesota. This project’s goals reflect Mn/DOT’s strategic direction to develop innovative multi-modal solutions and improve mobility of people and freight.
The UPA is funded by $133.3 million in federal funds and $50.2 million in matching state funds, and will create about 5,000 jobs.
