Single lane traffic planned tomorrow for further examination of damages to Stillwater lift bridge
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Traffic will be restricted to a single lane crossing the Minnesota Highway 36/Wisconsin Highway 64 Stillwater lift bridge for several hours tomorrow for additional inspection of the damaged structure. The bridge will be restricted to a single lane with flaggers between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The lift span will remain in operation for marine traffic.
The historic lift bridge between Stillwater, Minn. and Houlton, Wis. was struck by a lumber delivery truck heading westbound into Minnesota around 1:55 p.m. Monday and became stuck on the bridge. The crash closed both lanes of traffic crossing the bridge for more than five-and-a-half hours.
The bridge remains restricted to car and pickup truck traffic only until repairs are made. All other trucks should detour south to the Interstate 94 bridge at Hudson, Wis. to cross the St. Croix River.
Mn/DOT bridge engineers are continuing to assess damage to the bridge to determine the extent of damage before repairs begin.
