The open house will provide an opportunity to share information about the management of the Stillwater Lift Bridge during its interim vehicular use and after the conversion of the lift bridge to pedestrian and bicycle use. The open house will include numerous informational areas highlighting details of the process and the decisions that have been made to date. There will be no formal presentation. There will also be information available on the St. Croix River Crossing Project and Mn/DOT, WisDOT, and consultant staff will be on-hand to address questions
The Lift Bridge Management Plan and Repair Project is a mitigation item for the St. Croix River Crossing Project. This mitigation item includes developing a long-term Lift Bridge Management Plan and a future repair project and this mitigation item is a key stipulation in the 2006 Memorandum Agreement, which addressed project impacts on historic properties and specifically the lift bridge.
The Lift Bridge is also one of 24 bridges identified by Mn/DOT for long-term preservation as part of Mn/DOT’s statewide June 2006 Historic Bridges Management Plan. Motorists will continue to use the lift bridge until a new river crossing is constructed at which point the bridge will be converted to pedestrian and bicycle use. Timing for construction of the new bridge construction has not been determined and is contingent on project funding.
Additional information about the Stillwater Lift Bridge Management Plan and Repair Project is available from Todd Clarkowski at Mn/DOT (651-234-7714) and Terry Pederson at WisDoT (715-836-2857) or from the project website at www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/liftbridge/.
