Roseville, Minn.— Minnesota Department of Transportation officials announced today that reconstruction of the I-35W/Crosstown Commons project through Richfield and Minneapolis is being advertised for competitive bidding. All bids received will be opened on Friday, March 30 at the department's headquarters at 395 John Ireland Boulevard, St. Paul.
Mn/DOT engineers estimate that the project will cost approximately $285 million to construct. The project, which will reconstruct four miles of I-35W and two miles of Hwy 62, is scheduled to begin in early June 2007 and to be completed in the fall of 2010.
The Commons Section and the adjacent segments of I-35W and Hwy 62 were constructed in the middle to late 1960s and improvements are necessary to increase road capacity, to improve safety by eliminating forced weaving and to provide High Occupancy Vehicle lanes.
