Roseville, Minn.— Future expansion of Highway 55 between Plymouth and Rockford will be discussed at an open house from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 in the Training Room of the Hennepin County Public Works Facility at 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina, Minn.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) and Hennepin County are partnering to prepare an Environmental Assessment/ Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EA/EAW). Preparation of a design concept is underway to be used for right-of-way acquisition and preservation. Environmental documentation will be prepared to assess the potential impacts of the project and to help obtain federal funding for right-of-way preservation. Construction of the project is not programmed or funded in the department’s 20-year plan.
Representatives from Mn/DOT and Hennepin County will be available to answer questions about the proposed project. There will be no formal presentation. A formal public hearing on the EA/EAW document will follow later this year.
The Highway 55 project is needed to alleviate congestion, provide safer access to the highway from the local roads, improve an important connection in the growing western suburbs and to provide assist with future planning as the region develops.
