Roseville, Minn.—The Minnesota and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation
are distributing the 2006 Supplemental Final Environmental Impact Statement (SFEIS) regarding the St. Croix River Crossing between Highway 36 in the City of Oak Park Heights in Washington County, Minnesota and Highway 64 in the Town of St. Joseph in St. Croix County, Wisconsin. The public is invited to review and comment on the SFEIS during the official public review period that began June 16 and is continuing through July 19, 2006.
The last four years Minnesota and Wisconsin DOTs, the Federal Highway Administration and project stakeholders representing historic, environmental and local government interests have studied four "build" alternatives and a "no-build" alternative to find a safe and efficient crossing that is also sensitive to the area's cultural and natural resources.
The SFEIS contains a thorough examination of the social, economic and environmental impacts of the project. The SFEIS documents the preferred alternative, including the roadway approaches in Minnesota and Wisconsin, the river bridge design, the future use of the Stillwater Lift Bridge as a pedestrian facility and an extensive mitigation package.
