Roseville, Minn.—Major reconstruction of four interchanges along Highway 101 between the Crow River and the city of Elk River is slated to begin in mid June. The three-year project will rebuild the Highway 101 interchanges at Wright County Roads 36, 37, 42 and 39 (listed from south to north). During construction, no two adjacent interchanges will be closed.
Work will begin this summer at County Road 42. During reconstruction of a new bridge to carry traffic over Highway 101, the county road will be closed and detoured south to County Road 37. Construction at County Rd. 42 includes a new frontage road between County Roads 42 and 37 for future access to southbound Hwy. 101, along with a new ramp from southbound
Hwy. 101 to County Rd. 42 and new ramps from northbound Hwy. 101 to County Rd. 42 and from County Rd. 42 to the northbound highway.
At all times, traffic will remain two lanes each direction on Hwy. 101 on crossover and bypass lanes. During work on County Roads 36, 37 and 39, motorists will use bypasses and Hwy. 101 traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals. Throughout the summer, work on bypasses could be carried out at County Roads 36, 37 and 39 but will not interfere with traffic. Additional project details include:
- County Road 36 - a bridge over Hwy. 101 with two new ramp bridges over the Crow River for northbound Hwy. 101 traffic to County Rd. 36 and from County Rd. 36 to southbound Hwy. 101.
- County Road 37 – a bridge over Hwy. 101 and a new ramps between Hwy. 101 and County Rd. 37.
- County Road 39 – a bridge to carry Highway 101 over County Rd. 39 with a single-point interchange where all traffic movements meet at a central location on the bridge at a signal system.
During the project, motorists should watch for lane shifts through the work zone and follow marked detours.
Completion of all four interchanges is scheduled for the fall of 2008.
