Roseville,
Minn. The Minnesota Department of Transportation
(Mn/DOT) began the Stillwater Lift Bridge repair project on August
1, with completion of the repair project scheduled for November
1, 2005. In early August one of the bridge spans was removed to
allow boat traffic to travel upstream and downstream while the
bridge was being repaired.
The original plan included having the lift bridge
operational by October 16, 2005 however due to manufacturing problems
with parts of the mechanical system the lift mechanism will not
be operational until late 2005. Therefore Mn/DOT will not reinstate
the lift schedule until spring 2006 when the St. Croix navigational
channel reopens.
Mn/DOT assures the traveling public that the roadway
portion of the project will be open to motorists by November 1
as planned.
Motorists are encouraged to continue using the I-94 river crossing
in Hudson, Wisconsin.
