Roseville, Minn—It's that time of year again for overnight fall cleaning and repairs to the Interstate 94 Lowry Hill and Portland Avenue tunnels along with other highway tunnels throughout the Twin Cities Metro area. The cleaning will take place Tuesday through Thursday, September 20, 21 and 22. During the work, both directions of the Lowry Hill and Portland tunnels will close from 10 p.m. Tuesday, September 20 until 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, September 21.
The westbound side of the Lowry Hill Tunnel ONLY will again close from 10 p.m. Wednesday, September 21 until 5:30 a.m. Thursday, September 22.
During the closures, all traffic will use the prohibited vehicle route to detour around the closure.
Additional tunnels to be cleaned include:
- Hiawatha Avenue (Highway 55) near Minnehaha Park ;
- Highway 55 to go west on I-94;
- Highway 5 near the International Airport ; and
- Fifth Street tunnel between I-94 and downtown St. Paul.
All the tunnels will be cleaned after 12 midnight the morning of Wednesday, September 21. Motorist should expect minor delays and detours during closures.
