Roseville,
Minn. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) announced today that the Stillwater Lift Bridge is again operational. Two cables were identified as broken in the early morning hours on Tuesday, June 21, when attempts to raise and lower the bridge failed. The bridge was placed in the down position while the two cables were replaced yesterday and early today. There was a slight delay in the project as one of the gears that is used to tighten the cable was unable to be operated until after noon today.
Normal operations resumed on the lift bridge at 2 p.m. today. Maintenance crews remained at the site this afternoon to check that the lift mechanism and cable were operating properly.
There was no backlog of boat traffic either north or south of the bridge when normal lift bridge operations resumed.
