Work officially started on the long-awaited Highway 212 project this month when Mn/DOT signed a contract and issued a Notice to Proceed to Zumbro River Constructors for the final design and construction of Highway 212 between the Highway 312/County Road 4 interchange in Eden Prairie and existing Highway 212 just west of the County Road intersection in Carver. The new $238 million roadway, which will be completed in the early summer of 2008 will ease the commute for thousands of southwest commuters.
Zumbro River Constructors (ZRC) is a joint venture of Fluor Enterprises, Inc.; Ames Construction, Inc.; and Edward Kraemer & Sons, Inc. ZRC and Mn/DOT have a shared project office located at 312 Lake Hazaltine Drive in Chaska (952-368-5600). Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ZRC was selected for the project using Mn/DOT's best-value design-build selection process.
New Highway 212 will be a freeway serving southwest Minnesota with interchanges at Dell Road , Highway 101, Powers Blvd., Highway 41 and Engler Blvd. Grade-separated crossings will be also be constructed at Lyman Blvd., Pioneer Trail, Audubon, Bavaria Road, County Road 110, County Road 140 and old Highway 212.
While design task and field surveys have been started, major construction activities in the corridor will not be seen until later in the summer. During this construction season, construction activities will be the heaviest in the eastern section between Highway 101 and Highway 312/County Road 4 but there will be field activity in all parts of the corridor.
