(Roseville, Minn.) – McKnight Road in Maplewood will be closed in both directions and detoured from 10 p.m. Tuesday, February 15 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, February 16 beneath Interstate 94. During the closure, crews will remove railing from the interstate bridge above McKnight Rd. as work continues on the construction of new bridge abutments for the I-94 third lane expansion project.
Motorists are advised to take alternate routes to avoid any delay. Northbound McKnight Rd. traffic will detour on the ramp to I-94 at Burns Ave west to Hwy. 120, north on Hwy. 120 to Conway Ave and back to McKnight Road. Southbound traffic will go east on the frontage road (in front of Sunray Shopping Center) to Ruth St., then south on Ruth St. to Burns Ave. and back east on Burns Ave. to McKnight Road.
Traffic is currently restricted to a single lane on north and southbound McKnight Road and Century Avenue beneath the interstate for the winter months. And lanes on I-94 between McKnight Rd. and Century Ave. are narrowed until next spring.
New bridges are being built at McKnight Rd. and Century Ave. to carry an additional lane of I-94. Lane drops in this area cause a significant bottleneck for the nearly 100,000 vehicles using this stretch of the interstate each day.
Road work begins on mainline I-94 this spring with completion by the fall
of 2005.
