The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) will close all lanes of I-494 in both directions between Highway 62 and Highway 7 for demolition of the north half of the Excelsior Boulevard Bridge , from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct.1 until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4. The pedestrian bridge south of Excelsior Blvd. will also be removed at this time. The removal work will occur continuously throughout the night and day. Residents living near the work zone are advised to keep windows closed and be prepared for increased noise levels during the closure. Motorists are advised to use other routes if possible.Backups are expected.
All I-494 traffic will be detoured to Highway 62, Highway 169 and Highway 7 during the closure. All Excelsior Blvd. traffic will be detoured to Eden Prairie Rd. , Glen Lake Blvd. , County Rd. 62 and Baker Rd.
Please note: Excelsior Blvd. will close September 27 due to work being done by the city of Minnetonka on Excelsior Blvd. between Baker Road and the I-494 bridge. The six week road closure is necessary to allow storm sewer construction and private utility work to be completed as part of the Excelsior Blvd. and Baker Road intersection improvement project.
