(Roseville, Minn.) — The Minnesota
Department of Transportation will close one westbound lane and
one eastbound lane of I-94 during off-peak hours beginning Monday,
August 16 from Weaver Lake Road to the Crow River in Rogers. Two
lanes will remain open in each direction. The westbound lane will
be closed from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily and the eastbound lane will
be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The lane closures are necessary while
construction crews install cable median barrier. Cable median
barrier, a flexible, high strength cable, “catches”
vehicles in the median and helps prevent crashes caused when vehicles
cross through the median into lanes of traffic on the other side
of the median.
A cluster of recent cross-median crashes
have occurred on this stretch of I-94 prompting the department
to install the protective cable median barrier in this area.
The project, one of seven major safety
and preservation projects selected under the Pawlenty
-Molnau Transportation Package, is expected to be completed
in October 2004.
