NEW MILE MARKER SIGNAGE TO ASSIST WITH
LOCATING FREEWAY INCIDENTS

Roseville, Minn.—Bright green mile marker signage placed inside the center medians of two major Twin Cities metro area freeway corridors have been erected to help motorists pinpoint their exact location when seeking help following a crash, a breakdown or other incident.

The new mile markers can be found on I-35W from 46th Street to Industrial Blvd. and on Highway 65 from I-35W north of Lake St. into downtown MINNEAPOLIS.

"The mile markers make it easier for motorists to report incident locations in areas where accurate identification has been difficult," said Jim Kranig, Assistant State Traffic Engineer and Director of the RTMC.

"Faster incident removal from freeways means fewer crash-related delays and fewer secondary incidents."

The new mile markers display the roadway shield, direction of travel and mile point to one-tenth of a mile. In case of an incident, motorists are advised to locate the nearest mile-marker, make sure they are in a safe position and dial 911. Motorists must provide 911 operators with location, their wireless phone number and the nature of the incident.
