Roseville, Minn.—The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) will close Highway 316 from Highway 61 in HASTINGS to Highway 61 in RED WING beginning April 15, 2004.

The closure is necessary as crews resurface Highway 316 by milling the pavement and providing a bituminous overlay. The project includes safety improvements, including constructing 10-foot-wide paved shoulders along the entire length of the project, providing turn lanes, lighting, replacing culverts and improving key intersections. Construction will begin at the south end of the project.

Mn/DOT recommends motorists follow the posted detour. Traffic to the Treasure Island Casino will be detoured to Highway 61 during construction. From the north continue southbound on Highway 61 at the “Y” at Highways 316 and 61, on Highway 61 to Goodhue County Road 18. At that point, traffic must make a left-turn, north at Dakota County Road 18 for approximately three miles until reaching Sturgeon Lake Rd. At Sturgeon Lake Rd., head eastbound for approximately six blocks. The Treasure Island Casino will appear on the left hand side of the roadway.

Highway 316 will be open to local access ONLY during the construction project.

Weather permitting, the project is scheduled for completion of October 2004.
