Roseville,
Minn. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has announced
that it is altering the work schedule on its improvement project
on the Interstate 94 bridges at Hudson.
Beginning
Friday, April 2, all three lanes of westbound I-94 will be open
between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to accommodate rush hour traffic.
Crashes
in the work zones the past two days have led to backups of up
to ten miles.
Today,
WisDOT directed its contractor to adjust their work schedule to
better accommodate rush hour traffic. "While this will add
additional costs to the projects, the delays caused by these crashes
the last two days are unacceptable," said Bob Anderson, Project
Supervisor. "We will continue to everything we can prudently
do to minimize the traffic inconvenience, but we need your help.
Each of us needs to be alert, patient and courteous as we drive
through the work zone."
Motorists
are strongly reminded that while all three lanes will be open
to traffic, there will be no shoulder on the westbound left hand
lane. Motorists should slow down and exercise extreme caution
as they move through the work zone.
Motorists will continue to see periodic lane restrictions on the
bridges until the main stage of construction begins in April.
During the main stage of construction, all traffic will be on
six lanes of eastbound I-94.
Construction
is scheduled for completion in November 2004.
Motorists
are advised to slow down, be alert to changing traffic conditions,
and allow extra time to get through the work zone.
Additional
project information can be found on WisDOT's Web site at:
www.dot.wisconsin.gov/projects/d6/i94/index.htm.
Approximately
70,000 vehicles travel the I-94 bridges daily.
