((Roseville,
Minn.) - A two-year project to reconstruct and add a third lane
in each direction on more than two-and-a-half miles of Interstate
94 in Brooklyn Park begins Monday, June 10. Work on the interstate
between Highway 169 and Zane Avenue also includes reconstruction
of the interchanges of I-94 at Highway 169 and Boone Avenue.
Work will begin
on the westbound lanes this year with completion next summer. Reconstruction
and widening of the eastbound lanes will follow later next summer
with completion in the summer of 2004.
During the project,
traffic will be maintained two lanes in each direction on the side
of the interstate opposite reconstruction. The eastbound I-94 bridge
at Hennepin County Road 81 was widened under a project currently
underway. The westbound bridge at County Road 81 will be widened
to three lanes later this summer, which will lessen traffic impacts
during reconstruction on the eastbound interstate.
During the project,
motorists will encounter non-rush hour lane closures on the interstate.
Reconstruction of the interchanges will require ramp closures and
detours. All road and ramp closures will be posted in advance and
detour routes will be signed.
Weather permitting, the project is scheduled for completion by the
summer of 2004.
