(Roseville,
Minn.) - Resurfacing of the northbound lanes of Interstate 35W between
Highway 36 in Roseville and Lake Drive (Anoka County Road 23) in
Blaine was completed last night. There will be occasional lane closures
after 7 p.m. tonight on northbound I-35W north of I-694 as crews
core the roadway to make sure the new pavement has bonded to the
milled surface.
The roadway
was restricted to a single northbound lane north of I-694 during
afternoon rush hour yesterday due to safety concerns about the two-inch
drop between the newly paved surface and the milled portion of the
road. Completion of the paving was delayed until last night due
to severe weather that rumbled through the northern Twin Cities
Metro area on Sunday afternoon and evening.
While paving
continued yesterday on the northbound roadway, crews began milling
the southbound lanes of the interstate yesterday morning. Traffic
will be restricted to a single lane on southbound I-35W 24 hours
a day except during morning rush hour between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Restrictions on rush hour work were originally from 6 a.m. to 9
a.m., but based on the larger than expected impact on the morning
traffic, the contractor will remove all lane restrictions between
5:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., Monday through Friday to lessen morning
traffic congestion.
Once work
begins south of I-694, daytime traffic will be restricted to a single
lane. The interstate will close each night between 8 p.m. and 5
a.m. the following morning between I-694 and Highway 36. During
the closure, traffic will detour on I-694 to Snelling Avenue and
west to I-35W.
Weather
permitting, resurfacing work will be completed this weekend. Striping
and cleanup work will continue into the next week.
