Roseville,
Minn.— Resurfacing of Interstate 35W between Highway 36 in Roseville
and Lake Drive (Anoka County Road 23) in Blaine will continue throughout
the weekend and next week until completed. The emergency resurfacing
which began Monday evening, April 29,
on the northbound side of the interstate has been going extremely
well, with new pavement in place today from Highway 36 to just north
of County Road C. The road surface currently is milled off all the
way to County Road 10 with paving to follow.
This weekend's
work will continue on the northbound lanes and the interstate will
be closed from 8 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. tomorrow morning for
paving. Traffic will continue to use a detour on Highway 36 to Snelling
Ave. to I-694. Saturday, traffic will be restricted to a single
lane from
5 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the northbound interstate. This pattern of
single lane traffic north of I-694 and closures between Hwy. 36
and I-694 will continue throughout the weekend if needed on the
northbound roadway. Crews will be paving continuously throughout
the weekend. Once the surface of the northbound roadway is removed,
work will begin on the southbound interstate with traffic restricted
to a single lane. At the same time, paving will continue on the
northbound side of the road.
Next week, the
contractor will work from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m., Monday through Thursday
on the southbound interstate and traffic will be restricted to a
single lane between Lake Drive and I-694. The interstate will again
be closed and detoured each night from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following
morning once work begins south of I-694.
Motorists may
also encounter lane closures during the day if needed to complete
the project in the shortest amount of time possible.
The emergency
repair work is necessary due to the failure of a crack sealant a
couple weeks ago on the roadway. Weather permitting, resurfacing
should be completed by mid-May.
