HIGHWAY 36 RESURFACING, REPAIR PROJECT BEGINS NEXT WEEK

(Roseville, Minn.) - An ambitious three-and-a-half month project to resurface the roadway, rebuild shoulders, replace guardrail and construct new median barrier on Highway 36 between Interstate 35E in St. Paul and Highway 95 in Stillwater begins Monday, May 1st.

Beginning Monday morning, May 1st, motorists will encounter daytime lane closures Mondays through Fridays between Highway 61 and Interstate 694 as crews install loop detectors and excavate shoulders along the road. Work will begin at Highway 61 and move east to I-694 then turn around and move west to Highway 61.

At the same time, motorists will encounter lane closures from 6 p.m. each evening until 7 a.m. the following morning, Sunday night through Friday morning for shoulder excavation and repair between Edgerton Street and the Keller Lake Bridge. This work will last for approximately three weeks. After shoulder reconstruction is completed in late May, traffic will be restricted to two lanes eastbound and one lane westbound through June to replace the center median barrier.

Resurfacing of the highway begins the following Sunday night May 7th. During the project, one direction of Highway 36 will be closed and detoured each night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday nights through Friday mornings beginning on the eastbound side of the highway. If needed, weekend work will also require lane closures.

During the project, drivers should watch for occasional daytime shoulder closures and follow the marked detours during nighttime paving. Weather permitting, the entire project will be completed by mid-August.
