LANE CLOSURES AND TRAFFIC SWITCH PLANNED DURING HIGHWAY 169 RECONSTRUCTION NEAR JORDAN

(Roseville, Minn.) -- Beginning on Wednesday, April 19, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) will begin work on Highway 169 between 282 in Jordan to Bluff Drive in Sand Creek and Spring Lake Township (just north of Scott County Road 65). Work will include grading, surfacing and reconstruction of the roadway.

On Wednesday, crews will begin placing median barrier on the centerline of northbound Highway 169 restricting it to a single lane. Southbound lanes will have daily closures in or to build motorists bypasses to be used during paving and reconstruction work. Median placement will take about two weeks to complete and then traffic will be bypassed onto the northbound lanes in order to reconstruct and pave the southbound lanes. No left turns will be permitted.

Stage 2 of this work will require a traffic switch of southbound traffic onto the new southbound outside lanes. Northbound traffic will be diverted to the new southbound inside lanes. North and southbound traffic will continue to be separated by a median barrier. Reconstruction and paving will then take place on the northbound lanes. No left turns will be permitted during this work. The total cost for this project is $3.2 million. The average travel on this roadway is 21,000 cars per day, recorded in 1997.

Weather permitting, work will be completed by late September, 2000.

Mn/DOT asks motorists to join in a safety partnership and drive with caution in work zones, allow for extra time or plan an alternate route to reach their destinations.
