BRIDGE WORK ON 6TH STREET RAMP FROM DOWNTOWN
MINNEAPOLIS TO EASTBOUND I-94 WILL CLOSE RAMP THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER
(Roseville, Minn.) - Widening and redecking of two
bridges carrying 6th Street traffic from downtown
Minneapolis to eastbound Interstate 94 will require closing the Sixth
Street ramp on Monday morning, April 3rd. The ramp will
remain closed throughout the summer while crews widen the bridge
abutments and construct new pier columns. While the Sixth Street ramp
is closed, traffic will detour along Park Avenue to 4th
Street then east to Cedar Ave. and south to reach eastbound I-94.
Local traffic only will be allowed to use 6th Street east
of Park Avenue.
Although the 6th Street ramp crosses over the
junction of I-35W and Highway 55, the project will cause minimal impact to
either I-35W or Hwy. 55. However, the exit ramp from northbound I-35W to
University Avenue/4th Street will be restricted to a single lane during
the project.
Weather permitting, work on both bridges is expected to be
finished by early August.
Note: The original date was changed to April
4th to accommodate Twins fans attending the season opener on Monday
evening, April 3rd against Tampa Bay.
