MAIN STREET CONSTRUCTION, HIGHWAY 242 BRIDGE
REMOVAL
BEGINS MARCH 13th IN COON RAPIDS
(Roseville, Minn.) — A cooperative project among
the city of Coon Rapids, Anoka County and the Minnesota Department of
Transportation (Mn/DOT) to rebuild a stretch of Main Street in Coon Rapids
kicks off Monday morning, March 13th.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday morning, Highway 242 (Main
Street) will close to traffic between Coon Creek Boulevard and Highway 10
for removal and reconstruction of the bridge over Highway 10. It will
remain closed until the end of July. The ramps between Highway 242 and
westbound Highway 10 also will close until the end of July.
During bridge removal next week, westbound Highway 10
traffic will travel on a bypass from 10 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the
following morning. Eastbound Highway 10 motorists will also be diverted on
the ramps at Highway 242 from 10 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the next
morning. Single lane traffic will be allowed between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on
eastbound Highway 10 and from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. on westbound Highway
10. Crooked Lake Boulevard will also be closed during the nighttime
removal. Traffic will use Northdale Blvd. to reach their destinations.
Local traffic only will be allowed on Crooked Lake Blvd.
As bridge reconstruction begins the week of March 20th,
motorists will encounter occasional temporary lane restrictions on Highway
10 until November. Lane restrictions will be allowed weekdays on eastbound
Highway 10 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Westbound Highway 10 drivers may encounter lane
restrictions weekdays from 8 p.m. until 2 p.m. the following day. No
weekend lane restrictions are permitted between the hours of 12 noon and 6
p.m.
While the roadway is closed, traffic will follow a signed
detour using Round Lake Blvd., Bunker Lake Blvd. and Hanson Blvd., which
will remain open throughout the construction.
Weather permitting, Highway 242 will reopen to one lane of
traffic each direction in late July, following completion of half of the
new bridge. The entire bridge should be completed in November.
Additional work to rebuild Main Street (Anoka County Road
14) from four to six lanes on each side of the Highway 242 bridge will
begin in April. Reconstruction of two sections of Main Street between
Highway 10 and Coon Creek Blvd. and from Highway 10 west to Round Lake
Boulevard begins in April. Work also includes closing the ramp from
Crooked Lake Blvd. to Hwy. 10 and rebuilding the boulevard to connect with
124th Ave. Weather permitting, roadway reconstruction will be
finished in November.
Traffic will be maintained one lane in each direction west
of Highway 10 throughout the entire project.
NOTE: Main Street consists of Highway 242 and Anoka
County Road 14.
Weather permitting, repairs will be completed by Thursday
afternoon as scheduled. If repairs are completed sooner, the bridge
will reopen to traffic.
