  • The transportation information included as part of the BaseMap has changed significantly. Previous BaseMap information was offered as Arc/INFO coverages or export files (.e00). With the new release files are offered as ArcView shapefiles. Roads are no longer provided as separate coverages for each road system; they are now presented as a single shapefile containing all road systems. When available, up to four road names, including 911 name, have been added for each public road (no longer just trunk highways). Routes which were previously offered for only the trunk highway system, are now built for the entire road network. Finally, FGDC-compliant metadata is provided for each individual feature data set, rather than a general metadata file for the entire BaseMap.
