Make a Winter Safety Kit

For In The car

  • Find a three pound coffee can or ice cream bucket (in this bucket you will place the following items)

  • 24" long red or bright orange cloth to tie around the antenna to signal for help

  • Small flashlight with extra batteries

  • Can opener

  • Safety pins

  • Paper towels

  • Spoons

  • Food : soup, tea, raisins, hard candy, candy bars

  • Empty soup can to cook soup or tea in

  • Large plastic garbage bag

  • Four quarters (tape them to the inside of lid for phone calls)

  • Plastic whistle

The following optional items should be placed in the kit by a parent or adult.

  • Waterproof matches and a long-burning candle  (the candle can be used for warmth or to melt snow for drinking water)

  • Small pocket knife

These are great for giving as gifts too!!
