June 29, 2006 marked the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Federal Highway Act of 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Mn/DOT, together with other state DOTs and AASHTO, commemorated the anniversary of what is considered our nation's greatest public works project.

As part of its effort to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Interstate Highway System, TRB has produced this specially themed issue of the TR News, which examines the history, legacy, lessons, and prospects of the Interstate system.
