Deputy Commissioner/Chief Engineer Bernie Arseneau

 

Bernie Arseneau was appointed Deputy Commissioner and Chief Engineer of the Minnesota Department of Transportation on January 3, 2011. He assists the Commissioner in leading an agency of 5,000 people who are committed as servant leaders to uphold public needs and collaboration with internal and external partners to create a safe, efficient and sustainable transportation system for the future.

 

Prior to becoming Deputy Commissioner and Chief Engineer, Arseneau worked the past 29 years at MnDOT and has served in a variety of roles such as Division Director for the MnDOT Policy, Safety & Strategic Initiatives Division, Director of the Office of Traffic, Safety, & Operations while serving as the State Traffic Engineer, Area Maintenance Engineer and Tort Claims & Traffic Standards Engineer. Arseneau is an active participant in the leadership of the Toward Zero Deaths Program, and he chairs the AASHTO Sub Committee on Traffic Engineering. He is also a member of the AASHTO Standing Committee on Highways and the Standing Committee on Highway Traffic Safety.       

     

Arseneau has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota, is a registered Professional Engineer and a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer.
