What is complete

  • All 227 fracture critical and special feature bridges have had inspections completed this year.  222 were in-depth inspections and 5 were routine inspections.
  • All 3875 Trunk Highway bridges have had a routine inspection completed this year.
  • All 106 Trunk Highway bridges classified as structurally deficient have been inspected this year.
  • All 843 local bridges classified as structurally deficient have been reported as inspected.  An additional 42 of these bridges have been reported to be replaced this year.

Dec. 19, 2007

What is complete

  • 222 of 227 fracture critical and special feature bridges have had in-depth inspections have been completed this year.  Of the remaining 5 bridges, 4 have had routine inspections completed this year.  The remaining bridge will have a routine inspection completed by the end of this week.
  • All 3875 Trunk Highway bridges have had a routine inspection completed this year. 
  • All 106 Trunk Highway bridges classified as structurally deficient have been inspected this year.
  • At least 838 of approximately 885 local bridges classified as structurally deficient have been reported as inspected.  An additional 42 of these bridges have been reported to be replaced this year.  There are 5 remaining local structurally deficient bridges to be inspected this week.

What is complete

  • 220 of 227 fracture critical and special feature bridges have had in-depth inspections have been completed this year.  Of the remaining 7 bridges, 3 have had routine inspections completed this year.  The remaining bridges will have routine inspections completed by the end of next week.
  • At least 3829 of approximately 3875 routine Trunk Highway bridge inspections have been completed this year.  The remaining 46 bridges will have routine inspections completed by the end of next week.
  • All 106 Trunk Highway bridges classified as structurally deficient have been inspected this year.
  • At least 837 of approximately 885 local bridges classified as structurally deficient have been reported as inspected.  An additional 42 of these bridges have been reported to be replaced this year.  There are 6 remaining local structurally deficient bridges to be inspected.
  • The Cities of Minneapolis and Maple Grove have reported that its structurally deficient bridges have been inspected as of December 7, 2007.  No critical deficiencies found.

  • The City of Hermantown has reported that its structurally deficient bridges have been inspected as of December 5, 2007.  No critical deficiencies found.

  • Additional Mn/DOT 2-person inspection teams using a variety of access equipment are scheduled to inspect numerous bridges today. Some of the notable bridges to be inspected include:
    • Inspections teams will be inspecting bridges on I-90, T.H. 169, T.H. 15 and T.H. 19 this week in the Mankato area.
    • This week, two inspection teams from Detroit Lakes, Mn/DOT District 4, will be inspecting bridges located along T.H. 10 and I-94 in west central Minnesota.
    • Br. 27549; 42nd Avenue over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis will receive an in-depth fracture critical inspection by Mn/DOT inspection team.
    • Br. 6690; T.H. 11 over the Red River near Drayton on the North Dakota border will be receive an in-depth fracture critical inspection today.
    • Br. 9784: I-35 over the St. Croix Valley Railroad will be inspected today in Pine County. This bridge is classified as functionally obsolete.

  • PB Americas, Inc. will perform in-depth fracture critical inspection of the T.H. 52 (Lafayette) over the Mississippi River and I-90 (Dresbach) over the Mississippi River beginning on September 4, 2007.
  • Ontario Ministry of Transportation will be performing in-depth fracture critical inspection of the Rainy River Bridge between Baudette and Rainy River beginning on September 24, 2007. Polk County has scheduled inspection of their structurally deficient bridges for the next two weeks.
  • Scott County, Metro, has completed the inspections of all Scott County structurally deficient local bridges. The last inspection was completed on July 27, 2007. They monitor their structurally deficient bridges every 3 months.
  • Kittson and Hubbard counties are planning to do inspect structurally deficient bridges in the next few weeks.

  • 45 of approximately 250 in-depth fracture critical and special inspections have been completed this year.
  • At least 986 of approximately 3,600 routine Trunk Highway bridge inspections have been completed this year.
  • At least 57 of 106 bridges classified as structurally deficient have been inspected this year.
  • At least 28 of approximately 900 local bridges classified as structurally deficient have been inspected. Some of the notable reports include:
    • Polk County has scheduled inspection of their structurally deficient bridges for the next two weeks.

  • Portions of Trunk Highways and most local roads are closed due to significant flooding in Houston, Filmore and Winona Counties.
    • Bridge 6895 has been washed out on Hwy 76 south of I-90 (2 approaches).
    • Bridge 5797 on Old Highway 61 in MN City has approaches washed out and has been damaged.
    • One new bridge in Whitewater State Park is standing but the road approaching it on the north side of the park has been washed out.
  • Three two-person Baker Engineering bridge inspection teams, working as a sub-consultant to PB Americas, Inc. are performing in-depth fracture critical and routine inspection of the T.H. 61 (Hastings) over the Mississippi River. This work is expected to be finished around August 31, 2007.

    • Br. 6962: T.H. 68 over a ditch in Redwood County. This bridge is classified as structurally deficient.

      Bridges in Southeast Minnesota are being assessed for flood damage in during the next two days.
    • Br. 58806: Pine County 14 over I-35.
    • Bridges in Marshall County along T.H. 220 and in Hubbard County near Park Rapids will be inspected today by District 2 inspection personnel.

  • The City of Minneapolis has inspected 13 of 17 bridges classified as structurally deficient.
  • City of Hibbing has inspected all 4 structurally deficient bridges this year. During the inspections, no significant changes were noted.
  • City of Duluth has demolished 2 of 3 structurally deficient bridges; the remaining bridge is scheduled for inspection for August 23, 2007.
  • Kittson County has recently inspected 3 of 4 structurally deficient bridges. The remaining structurally deficient bridge is a dam and is scheduled for inspection soon. The county is responsible for the deck inspection and the DNR is responsible for the substructure.
  • City of Savage has replaced their structurally deficient bridge in the fall of 2006.

    • Br. 6770 and Br. 6771: T.H. 70 over Cannon River. These bridges are classified as structurally deficient. Both of these bridges are in the Rochester District
    • Br. 9098: T.H. 169 over the Minnesota River and Br. 9294: T.H. 14 over MSAS 111. These bridges are classified as functionally obsolete. Both of these bridges are in the Mankato District
    • There are several bridges being inspected today on T.H. 68, 23 and 91 in the Windom area.
