History & significance

Built in 1958, Bridge 6580 carries Rice Street (County Road 49) over Interstate 694 in Ramsey County. The bridge is significant as an example of the earliest period of use and evolution for prestressed concrete girder in the state. Prestressed concrete represents a significant advance in construction materials and was first used by the Minnesota Highway Department in 1957. This bridge was constructed the following year.
