About this project

Bridge safety

You may have noticed that some of the concrete is flaking or scaling on the railings. It's not visually appealing, but the bridge is safe. We've conducted visual inspections and taken core samples of the concrete to a labratory to determine what caused the scaling. The bridge is under warranty and the problem will be fixed.

Main Span

  • Four lanes of traffic (two in each direction) were switched to the new Hastings Bridge in early June 2013.
  • Watch the time lapse video of the Main Span as it was moved from land to barge, floated down the river and lifted into place.

North Approach

This structure includes five-spans north of the Main Span and is a pre-tensioned, pre-cast concrete girder bridge.

  • Currently supports four lanes of traffic

South Approach

This structure is made up of two side-by-side bridges that cover five spans south of the Main Span into Downtown Hastings. It consists of post-tensioned, solid, cast-in-place concrete slabs.

CP Railroad Bridge

The Hwy 61 bridge over CP Railroad has been replaced as part of the Hastings Bridge Project. New concrete median barrier will be installed on Hwy 61 from MRI to the new River Bridge, the left turn lanes into MRI, King’s Cove, Hub’s Marina and Captains Bay are now closed.
