District 2, 3, 4, and 8 Deployment

Project Description

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) has launched several Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) initiatives throughout the state and has looked at ways to deploy technology and integrate systems to enhance transportation in both urban and rural areas. By previously commissioning scoping studies for predominantly rural districts, Mn/DOT determined the highest priority transportation needs and what technology deployments could be implemented to address those needs. The next step in this process is a District Deployment to deliver selected projects that have an impact in saving travelers’ time, lives, and money.

As part of Mn/DOT’s next step, selected ITS projects to increase traveler safety and transportation efficiency are being deployed in four Mn/DOT Districts.  The selected projects outlined concerns unique to those districts which cover large areas of rural landscape as well as small-medium urban areas.

• Emergency Vehicle Preemption Systems
• Closed Circuit TV Surveillance Cameras
• Permanent Dynamic Message Signs
• Portable Speed Detection and Advisory System
• School Bus Stop Warning System
• Transit CAD Upgrade
